WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY AND HOW CAN OSTEOPATHY HELP YOU?
Osteopathy is a holistic alternative therapy, which follows the principle that structure governs function of the body, and that the body has an ability to heal itself. Osteopathy facilitates the healing process, with the use of various techniques such as soft tissue, articulation and manipulation. Its aim is to positively effect the body’s circulatory, lymphatic and nervous systems. Osteopaths are highly trained to find areas of excessive strain and restriction in the body using a finely tuned sense of palpation (touch).
The benefits of osteopathy include pain reduction, improvement in joint mobility and reducing chronic muscular tension. Treatment could include various techniques such as soft tissue to stretch and increase the blood flow and the removal of toxins within the muscles; articulation to improve mobility and flexibility of joints by passively taking them through their full range of motion; muscle energy techniques to release muscle tightness by alternatively stretching and then made to work against resistance; joint manipulation to improve range of movement and free joint restrictions.
It can help alleviate symptoms of neck, back and joint pains, muscular strains, repetitive strain injuries, sports injuries, headaches, pregnancy related issues (back pain, indigestion etc), arthritis and postural problems.
